Thirteen girls and women from different districts of Nepal have been trained in Bharatpur with the capacity to play a leading role in society against human trafficking and Gender-Based violence.
They have enhanced their leadership capacity by participating in the social leadership development program conducted by Mission Media Nepal. According to the organizers, the convocation was held by maintaining social distance due to Kovid 19.
According to Sindhu Dhakal, chairperson of the organization, the training was organized by Mission Media with the objective of enabling women affected by human trafficking and sexual violence and those at high risk to play a leading role in the society against violence. The participants were trafficking and gender-based violence survivors residing at the safe shelter run by different anti-human trafficking organizations.
Speaking on behalf of the participants in the training, the speakers said that they have gained the courage to move forward in life after participating in the training and expressed their commitment to move forward by using the skills they have acquired to minimize violence in the society. Although various organizations have been working against human trafficking and sexual violence in Nepal, the survivors have not been able to reach most of the organizations. Mission Media has been conducting this kind of program for the last two years saying that the survivors can play an important role in reducing the impact of incidents like violence and human trafficking in the society. The organization has already provided this kind of training to 37 adolescents and women including 8 in the first session, 16 in the second session, and 13 in the third session, said Sindhu Dhakal, chairperson of the organization.
Participants in the training will be able to inform their communities about social crimes such as human trafficking, sexual violence, and child marriage. In addition, they have been able to coordinate with the local bodies and the police administration for the management of such incidents in the society, to make the adolescents and women of the society aware and encourage them from the incidents and experiences in their lives.
In addition, the participants have been provided with practical and professional knowledge including administrative skills, legal knowledge, personality development, the establishment of the association, and its scope of work.
Member of Parliament and women’s rights activist Ms. Shanta Chaudhary, women’s rights activists like Ms. Charimaya Tamang, Ms. Sunita Danuwar, and other renowned rights activists facilitated the training, said Dhakal. The organization is working with the mission of enhancing the capacity of the survivor women and establishing them in every place of the society and is also preparing to conduct various other programs for their capacity building.
